No Compromise

Steve Almendarez

Whether it's a state side garrison, a FOB in the dessert, a battleship or especially a submarine underway…..there can be no compromise. We take efforts to secure the internal & external integrity of our bases, ships, police stations and ourselves. We wear armor and utilize tools and weapons to defend ourselves and others. But as the saying goes, “any kink in the armour”, any compromise, down we go. Just like the spiritual armour we cover ourselves with through God’s word,  it also can be compromised. What kink’s have we allowed into our spiritual armour? Where is the compromise?

If we use the example of a submarine, (God bless you all in the “silent service”, class of your own) when that sub has dived, it relies on the structural integrity of its hull, and a complex system of ballast, pumps, valves etc….to maintain its structural integrity. These brave sailors constantly check, check and check again to ensure the systems are working and the ship is safe. What then if one of those sailors misses his check? More than likely things may still continue to be ok. Eventually, if this pattern continues it can eventually become, “not a big deal” to miss a check. Maybe you can sleep in a little longer, spend a little extra time in the gym. You’ll get to those “checks” eventually right? Who’s gonna know, or care for that matter?
In the case of the ship we can assume many things, maybe the Chief of the boat finds out and rips you a new…( insert your new whatever here) Or maybe it’s the one time that the system fails. Then what? You have metric tons of water that may crush the hull of the ship. Now the Ship with the sailors lives on it is lost.

Now, it's not just the lives lost and the ship lost, but it’s one less guardian of the sea protecting its battle group. Now the battle group is compromised, which in turn comprises the fleet, which in turn comprises the theatre of operation, which in turn…..and it goes on and on. All because we decided it “wasn’t that bad” to miss a check or ( insert your “not that bad here.”_________ ,firewatch, patrols, anti-swimmer watch, etc……)

“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin”. James 4:17. And once there is a compromise with sin, no matter how small, the forces of the enemy will exploit it. Think of a damn with a crack and small leak. Eventually the pressure will build and the damn will no longer be structurally sound, and we know what can happen after that. We wear uniforms and swear oaths to uphold local, laws, Federal laws and International laws. We dedicate ourselves to protect those who cannot protect themselves but we must protect ourselves, we must protect our souls. “Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.” 1 John 3:4.

We cannot enforce the laws of the world while breaking the laws of the spiritual realms. Both must be upheld to ensure that we are serving with integrity, with purity but most importantly…..with NO COMPROMISE! The enemy is waiting and will not rest. Stand firm, be ready! “Put on the FULL armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." Ephesians 6:11
Let there be no compromise.
