You’ve heard the phrase “embrace the suck”. You’ve probably muttered it sarcastically to your battle buddy during a brutal workout or training session. Or maybe you got the patch on your tac vest so we know that you’re a bad dude when you go for weighted runs….
I joke, but I do agree, it’s a great mentality to have. But here’s another one for you. Embrace your persecution. I don’t know that this would make a cool a patch or t-shirt, but I believe the message is important for us as Christians.
2 Timothy 3:12 “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”.
There is no “if”. It’s not a maybe. If you are a Christian, you will be persecuted. Just like in life, there is no if or maybe that life will suck. If you live and breathe, life will suck at some point. So we as warriors and sheep dogs embrace it right? But do we embrace our persecution with the same mentality? Do we say “give me your worst devil man”?! I don’t say that either, but you get the point.
I have had the honor to train recruits in defensive tactics for a few years. In doing this training, we find that many recruits have never been punched in the face. Naturally, getting hit in the face is scary if you have never experienced it. So we put them through drills specifically designed to get them used to being hit in the face.
We tell them, “Listen here kiddo, you’re going to get hit in the face. It’s okay, you will live, and you will fight on”. The recruits who embrace getting hit in the face continue to charge forward and are successful in the drill. But the recruits who cower and shudder when hit, are stopped in their tracks and cannot complete the drill. They are weak and should not graduate the academy. But who am I kidding? We both know that they will.
What if we lived our Christian life like this? HECK YEAH I’m gonna be persecuted at work! BRING IT ON. So what if my friends talk about me behind my back? I embrace it. How different would your life be? How much more effective would you be for the gospel if you didn’t fear the persecutions that we routinely face?
Do I personally live like this? Sadly not at all. I’m convicted typing this article, but why not start tomorrow? So what do you think? “Embrace Your Persecution” patches??? Yeah probably not….
